Actively Managed Muni ETFs (5/10/2010)

When Exchange Traded Funds (“ETFs”) were first permitted in 1993, after a fund sponsor received U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) exemptive relief from various provisions of the Investment Company Act of 1940 that would not otherwise allow the ETF structure, they were required to track designated indices. In early 2008, the SEC first granted exemptive relief to several fund sponsors to offer fully transparent actively managed ETFs, provided they met certain requirements.
